Fremont board meets Tuesday

FREMONT -- An Internet cafe ordinance amendment will top the agenda for the meeting of the Fremont Board of Aldermen Tuesday night.

The town has proposed to reduce the setback requirement between Internet cafes from 500 feet. The city of Goldsboro has a requirement that establishments be no less than 200 feet from each other.

The town board is expected to take action on the measure following a public hearing on the ordinance amendment.

Other action items include the acceptance of foreclosed properties from the County of Wayne as well as the approval of the local water supply plan.

The board is also expected to take action concerning street paving within the town limits.

Reports are expected from the Public Works Department concerning its projects as well as concerning bought and sold utilities.

A summary of the town's finances concludes the reports agenda.

The board will also discuss the N.C. Small Towns Economic Prosperity N.C. Small Towns Economic Prosperity planning meeting which is scheduled for Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Designed to help struggling small towns with economic renewal through community coaching, leadership training, planning assistance and grants, the program is part of the N.C. Rural Economic Development Center. It is open to municipalities with a population of 7,500 or less.

Fremont will receive $25,000 for planning and technical assistance by an economic development adviser. Once the town develops a plan for economic development the state will provide $100,000 to implement it.
