Goldsboro native elected to Masonic leadership position

Eddie N. Sauls III, a Goldsboro native, was elected the 56th Grand Master of Prince Hall Masons for the state of Iowa at the organization's 125th Annual Communications.

A 1980 graduate of Goldsboro High School, Sauls was inducted into the Goldsboro High All Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. A graduate of Winston-Salem State University, he also was inducted into the college's sports Hall of Fame in football.

After earning his bachelor's degreee in political science, Sauls earned his master's degree in public administration from Iowa State University and was the school's first African-American presidential management intern assigned to the U.S. State Department, serving as a diplomat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, El Salvador, La Paz, Bolivia, and Hong Kong. He is married and has three children.

Sauls currently is a bureau chief with Iowa Workforce Development in Des Moines, Iowa, and coaches football at East High School in Des Moines.
