Another road closure due to the Center Street Streetscape project went into effect this morning as the westbound lane of Mulberry Street will be closed at its intersection with Center Street.
The closure will not allow westbound traffic to cross Center Street for the next two weeks, although the closure could last as many as three weeks.
Traffic signals will be in flash mode, displaying red lights on Center Street and yellow on Mulberry Street.
The eastbound lane of Mulberry Street will not be affected by the construction, which seeks to connect the current construction with existing water and storm drainage lines beneath Mulberry Street.
The Streetscape project has emerged as the city's signature downtown revitalization project after years of discussion. First a part of the city's downtown master plan, city officials determined it best to perform the renovations in phases, beginning with the 200 north block of Center Street.
The project calls for the renovation of that block by widening the sidewalks and median and creating a path between the roads as well as planting new trees.
Construction is expected to conclude Oct. 15.
