Less than 24 hours after members of the Goldsboro Police Department arrested a 17-year-old for his alleged role in a May 30 shooting that left a local man dead, city officers are embroiled in yet another murder investigation.
Kevin Bell, 34, was found shot to death outside his Slaughter Street residence at just after midnight.
And while the department declined to provide additional details about what they have characterized as a homicide, Wayne County residents are, as of late, becoming all too familiar with gun violence.
City Manager Scott Stevens reacted this morning to news that another local man had been murdered.
"Any time you have a loss of life or people being injured by others, it's a concern to us," he said. "The biggest thing the community can do ... is report what they see. If something doesn't look right or feel right ... call 911."
The following is a summary of shooting incidents that have occurred within the past two months:
*May 3: Khyrie Roberts, 21, was shot to death outside the Madison Market Grill and Grocery.
*May 6: A 15-year-old was riding in a car on Olivia Lane when someone in a vehicle parked at its intersection with Carver Drive opened fire.
*May 7: Jaquan Amahd Dennis, 19, was shot in the foot while standing in the EZ Choice Tinting parking lot at 300 W. Grantham St.
*May 10: Carlos Atkinson, 51, told investigators he was shot in the arm near Mina Weil Park.
*May 30: Delindao Alijuwon Miller, 23, was shot and killed near Franklin Bakery's Sunbeam Bread and Rolls complex.
*June 3: Willie Carroll Stevens Jr., 44, was shot in the arm after shots were fired on Seymour Drive.
Many of these investigations, including the one opened when Bell's body was discovered early this morning, are still ongoing.
Those with information are being urged by local lawmen to contact Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255.
