Top students in area high schools have been named in anticipation of upcoming graduation ceremonies. Six high school graduation ceremonies will take place over the next week, Wayne County Public Schools officials announced.
A total of 1,184 seniors are receiving diplomas this year, with 136 already handed out during previous ceremonies at Wayne Early/Middle College High School and Wayne School of Engineering.
Rosewood High School graduation will take place Friday evening at 7 p.m. on the Branch Pope Football Field, with 115 candidates.
Virginia Simpson is valedictorian. She plans to attend Western Carolina University in the fall to study forensic science.
Salutatorian Michaela Smith will attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and pursue a degree in nursing.
Three commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday morning.
Eastern Wayne High School will be at 9 a.m. in Warrior Football Stadium, with 240 graduates.
Cailey Solomon, valedictorian, will study biology at UNC-CH, while salutatorian Reginald DeGuzman will also be attending UNC-CH. He has not indicated what field of study he will pursue.
At 10 a.m. on Hardy Talton Athletic Field, Charles B. Aycock High will graduate 242 students.
Valedictorian Benjamin Coley intends to study journalism at UNC-CH. Salutatorian Brantley Collins will pursue a degree in computer science from N.C. State University.
Spring Creek High ceremonies, also at 10 a.m., will take place in Kornegay Arena at Mount Olive College, with 121 candidates for diplomas.
Sara Boltinhouse, valedictorian, intends to major in pre-pharmacy at Campbell University. Zachary Price, salutatorian, will study agricultural business management at N.C. State University.
Southern Wayne High ceremonies are scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7 at MOC in Kornegay Arena, with 230 graduates.
Meagan Stott, valedictorian, will attend UNC-CH. She has not declared a major. Salutatorian David Joyner will also be a student at UNC-CH, where he will study political science.
Next Friday, June 15, Goldsboro High School graduation will take place at 6 p.m. in Cougar Stadium, with 100 candidates for diplomas. The school year for GHS is slightly longer due to stipulations of a federal school improvement grant requiring additional teacher and student days.
Zacchia Cobb is valedictorian. She plans to major in biology at Howard University. Salutatorian Shacarla Exum will double major in computer science and education at UNC-Greensboro.
