Eight area students were chosen to participate in the 2012 North Carolina Middle School All State Chorus, held recently in Greensboro.

Officials said 600 middle schools from across the state were represented in this year's event, which featured a sixth-grade chorus, a women's chorus and a mixed chorus.

Representing Wayne County Public Schools were Tyra Artis, Allison Bailey, Johnathan Klem and Jameson Morris, all from Eastern Wayne Middle School; Katie Anderson and Macayla Tyndall, both from Grantham School; and Kayleon Dortch and Katlyn Kornegay, from Rosewood Middle School.

Students rehearsed with their music teachers in advance of attending the all state event. Once there, they worked with a guest clinician, who brought all the vocal parts together in preparation for the performance.

The choral teachers at their respective schools were Jaime Cox of Grantham, Skip Morris of Eastern Wayne Middle, and Lisa West of Rosewood Middle.
