'Cure for Colors' raises $50,000 for cancer fight

The "Cure for the Colors" cancer fighting fundraiser sponsored by Southeastern Cancer Care on April 21 raised more than $50,000 to help benefit cancer patients in eastern North Carolina.

Proceeds go to help people currently battling cancer or who are within a year of completing treatment by providing them with gas, food, utilities, prescription drugs and other needs.

The Mary and Rosalind Whaley Team raised the most money. The second highest total was raised by the Oncology Unit at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Other major contributors were: 3HC, Raper Drugs, Bicycle World, Sampson Regional Medical Center, Coco Cola Bottling Co. of Goldsboro, Southeastern Medical Oncology Center, Community Home Care and Hospice, Stevenson Honda, the Family Y, Wayne Memorial Hospital, First Citizens Bank, Wayne Pharmacy, InTandem, Wayne Radiation Oncology, Onslow Memorial Hospital, Wayne Radiologists and Parks Portable Toilets.

Al Brantley finished first in the marathon with a time of 3:46:36.
