Goldsboro native Ronnie Wooten directs state honors high school band

Goldsboro native Ronnie Wooten was one of three conductors to lead the North Carolina All State Honors Bands May 5 in Chapel Hill. Conductors are nominated and selected by membership of the N.C. Bandmasters Association from a slate of nationally-recognized conductors from across the United States.

Wooten, a 1977 graduate of Goldsboro High School and an honors graduate of East Carolina University, also holds master's and doctorate degrees. He previously taught at GHS, where he led students in superior and division ratings throughout the state as well as region.

Currently a professor of music and coordinator of instrumental music education at Northern Illinois University, he conducted the high school freshman and sophomore band.
