Teen biker collides with vehicle
A 16-year-old bicyclist was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for minor injuries after being struck head on by a vehicle on 11th Street Monday night.
Hortense Adjaffonn, who lives on 11th Street near where the collision occurred, was released from the hospital later that night.
She was hit about 8:45 p.m. by a 2006 Hyundai passenger car driven by Jeffrey Dekeyser, of Wilmington Avenue.
The accident occurred just outside of the city limits, near a bend of the street, which connects Wayne Memorial Drive and North William Street.
The speed limit in that zone of the roadway is 45 mph.
State Highway Patrol Trooper B.K. Leonard said Dekeyser was traveling 35 mph at point of impact.
Adjaffonn was wearing a black tee and dark jeans when the night-time collision took place, Leonard said.
He said there were no contributing factors to the accident, but cited the teen's lack of reflective clothing and her riding against the flow as traffic as poor decisions.
Leonard added that Adjaffonn was not wearing a helmet.
No one was charged in the incident.
