Wayne Community College students win state honors

Wayne Community College's chapter of Phi Beta Lambda business education student organization received several awards during the organization's 58th annual State Leadership Conference in Charlotte.

The local Gamma Chi chapter was recognized for having the largest chapter membership in the state, largest increase in total membership in the state, and most delegates at the conference.

It competed against 37 North Carolina universities and colleges in individual and team events.

Other competition results included: Taylor Wade and Lucas Albertson, fifth place in business ethics; Cody Vaughn, fifth place in computer applications; Shelby Bigham, third place, and Samantha Pickard, fourth place, in computer concepts; computer game and simulation programming, Andrew Howell, James Braswell and Jeremy Honeycutt, first place, and Jacob McCullough, Chrystle Mealing and Shelby Bigham, second place; J.D. Medlin, seventh place in contemporary sports issues; Corey Townsend, second place in cyber security; Jim McCullough, second place, and Thomas Lanier, third place, in database design and applications; desktop publishing, James Braswell and Andrew Howell, first place, and Miguel Vega and Samantha Pickard, second; digital video production, Angela Cromer, Ryan Wellmer and Jeremy Honeycutt, first place, and Jim McCullough, Ella Edmundson and Lucas Albertson, second; help desk, Silbano Talamantes, first, and Timothy Smith, second; Ella Edmundson, fifth place, international business; Chrystle Mealing, sixth place, job interview; J.D. Medlin, fourth place, justice administration; Jeannette Talamantes, third place, management analysis and decision making; networking concepts, Silbano Talamantes, fourth place, and Erik Ramsey, fifth; public speaking, Daniel Paske, fourth place, and Raquel Rodriguez, sixth; Timothy Smith, third place, sports management and marketing; Erik Ramsey, first place, telecommunications; web site design, Joshua Parker, second, and Miguel Vega, third; and Thomas Lanier, fifth place, word processing.
