Greene music man and GHS grad to be honored

The Greene County Music Alumni will hold a fundraising tribute Saturday to former Green Central High School music director Kenneth Ginn.
This event, "Kenneth Ginn, The Music Man ... a Legend of Greene County Music," will be an evening of entertainment from music department alumni, including alumni members of band, chorus, and the Ramblers, as well as honoring a legend of Greene County Schools music.
Ginn, a Goldsboro High School graduate, began his tenure as the first music director at Greene Central High School in 1961.
Through the years, he directed many musicals, including "Oklahoma!", "Annie Get Your Gun," "Carousel," "Guys and Dolls" and "South Pacific."
Ginn was known for his talent for recognizing potential in each student, and drawing talents out of those individuals that they didn't even know that they had. Ginn also directed the Varsity Singers, The Ramblers and lead the marching band in 1974 to a Cary Band Day Victory. Later, Ginn was the music director of Lenoir Community College in Kinston where he continued to share his talents by organizing a show ensemble The Troubadors, as well as producing and directing more shows.
This program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lenoir Community College auditorium, with doors opening at 6 p.m. It is one of the first events being put on by the GC Music Alumni, a newly formed nonprofit organization created to raising funds for the music departments of Greene County Schools.

The proceeds will help music department needs and set up an annual scholarship fund for a deserving senior entering into the music field, sponsored by the GC Music Alumni. General seating is $20 per person, including a souvenir book. A limited number of VIP tickets, at $50 each, also are still available.
The show will be in the LCC auditorium at 602 W. Harper St., Snow Hill.
