Erick James Speight, 31, of LaGrange Tuesday was sentenced in federal court in Greenville to more than nine years in prison on his plea of guilty to conspiring to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

The 114-month sentence is to be followed by five years of supervised probation.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment against Speight on Aug. 10, 2011. Speight pleaded guilty to the charges on Jan. 5, 2012.

According to the investigation, law enforcement officers in March 2011 received information that co-defendants Eric Paul Lopez Camarena and Rolando Munoz-Sanchez were running drugs from Texas to North Carolina.

Officers conducted surveillance and found 2,039.5 grams of cocaine in their vehicle.

The two men said they were to deliver the cocaine to Speight in LaGrange.

The delivery was arranged and Speight was arrested at the meeting location.
