Alleged attempted theft at WalMart

Nicky Dexter, 26, of 109 Cambridge Place in Smithfield, was arrested by Goldsboro police after allegedly attempting to steal 39 DVDs from the Spence Avenue WalMart on Wednesday.

A loss prevention officer reported witnessing Ms. Dexter put the DVDs, valued at more than $875, into a bag and walk out of the store. Several loss prevention officers confronted Ms. Dexter, who fled by running back into the retailer, according to the report.

After a brief struggle, Ms. Dexter was detained and police were contacted.

Police served outstanding warrants and charged Ms. Dexter with trespassing, shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was placed under a $105,500 bond.

B&Es and larcenies

*Christopher Nelson reported the theft of a 9 mm handgun from his vehicle, which was broken into between Tuesday and Wednesday, while it was in the 1700 block of East Elm Street.

*Kimberly Holmes reported a breaking and entering at her home in the 100 block of Vanderbilt Circle that occurred Wednesday. She told police that when she returned home she saw the suspect running from the house. Ms. Holmes said entry was made into the home by breaking through a door.

*Woodrow Smith reported the theft of utility trailer and riding lawnmower, which had a total value of $1,950, from his home in the 4900 block of U.S. 117 Alternate in Dudley. The larceny occurred Wednesday.

*Rodney Kearney reported a break-in at Beston United Methodist Church, located at 2360 E. New Hope Road in LaGrange, that occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday. During the incident property was stolen that included a vacuum, microwave, speaker amplifier and TV, which had a total value of more than $600.

*Adam England reported the theft of his Eclipse scooter, valued at $400, from the front yard of his home in the 1400 block of East Walnut Street.

*Chris Harrison reported the theft of a $300 air conditioning unit from outside his home in the 400 block of U.S. 13 South that occurred Wednesday.
