Have you or someone you know been affected by cyberbullying, bullying or teen suicide?

This Friday at 6:30 p.m., a group of concerned citizens and local professionals will gather to talk about how they can help stop these problems that plague many local schools and families.

Cost to attend the dinner at Sleepy Creek Club House in Dudley is $5. The event will include a speech by Doug Merrill, an Ohio man who has decided to do something about giving teens and families the tools they need to fight these concerns.

But the Power UP weekend does not end there.

Join volunteers and teams Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Sleepy Creek Club House for a little physical fitness -- another key component of mental health.

There will be an event for everyone from a one mile fun run/walk to a 5K and a 10K. Entry fees will be $15 for the fun run and $20 for the other two races.

There will be a live band and music on the course.

Races will be chip timed by Run the East LLC. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers and the top three in each age group.

Race directors Deanna Morris, 919-223-2628 and Carol Long, 919-734-0758, can answer questions about the event or sign up teams to run together.

After the race, stick around for a pig picking -- cost $5. Robert Radford will handle the barbecue duties.

Music and entertainment are free.

Booths will be open during and after the race. Vendors and organizations signed up so far include facepainting, protein shakes, Family YMCA, funnel cakes, Blessings from Above, a booth in memory of Nathan Lynn Ford, Wayne Uplift and a hot dog vendor. Vendor space is still available.

Volunteers are also needed for registration, finish line and water helpers.

Contact Ms. Morris or Ms. Long to sign up to volunteer or to be a vendor at the event.
