Two teenagers on mo-peds gave Goldsboro police a run for their money Monday afternoon, but the chase ended quickly when the two-wheelers collided with one another on Spence Avenue.
Officers in a patrol car were attempting to stop the riders on Cashwell Drive shortly after noon for not having their helmets properly fastened. But the two took off through a parking lot with the patrol car in pursuit.
Within a minute, the mo-peds had crashed on Spence near the Burger King restaurant.
One of the suspects tried to run -- passing customers in the drive-through lane -- but he was apprehended behind the restaurant.
Latrae McKinnon, 16, of 900 Carver Drive, was charged with two counts of resisting an officer, fleeing to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, a registration violation, insurance violation and failure to properly wear a helmet.
McKinnon also was charged with larceny after officers discovered what appeared to be a stolen shirt stuffed in his pants.
He was placed under $8,000 bond.
Marquez Leach, 19, of 127 Mill Creek Court, was injured when the mopeds collided and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. He was charged with failure to wear a helmet and possession of a stolen vehicle, after investigators determined the mo-ped he was riding was stolen.
