Southeastern Cancer Care fundraising road run to start on April 21

Southeastern Cancer Care is gearing up for its second annual road run fundraiser, which begins on April 21, 2012, at 9 a.m.
The race will consist of four parts -- a certified 26.2 mile marathon, a 100-mile ultra-marathon, a 5.26-mile run and a 1-mile fun walk/run.
All proceeds raised during this event will remain in eastern North Carolina to help patients currently undergoing chemo or radiation therapy or who are within one year of completing therapy.
The course will start in the parking lot across from Wayne Memorial Hospital, follow Wayne Memorial Drive to Tommy's Road, then to Patetown Road, back to Country Day Road and then Wayne Memorial Drive. To complete the marathon, runners will need to navigate the 5.26-mile course five times. For the ultra-marathon, the course must be completed 19 times. There is a 30-hour time limit. Four aid stations will be located along the course.
SCC was founded in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt charity designed to help cancer patients with their day-to-day needs such as prescription drugs, gas, food, utilities and rent.
Since its inception, SCC has distributed more than $16,500 in financial support of people who live east of I-95 or who are in the counties which have I-95 within their boundaries.

"Cures for the Colors" was chosen as the trademark of SCC, as the goal is to cure all types of cancer. Each cancer has its own color. Just to name a few, pink is for breast, green is for kidney, blue is for colon, and white is for lung cancer. During this event, individual participants will have the opportunity to select the color T-shirt that represents the cancer they are running/walking in memory or in honor of.
