Miss EWHS pageant to be held Friday

Nine young ladies will vie for the title of "Miss Eastern Wayne High School 2012" on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Moffatt Auditorium on the Wayne Community College campus.

The pageant is sponsored by the Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America. More than $6,000 in scholarship money will be awarded to the top three winners.

Special guests will include Blair Mozingo, Miss Goldsboro 2012, One Direction Drama Team, and Rachel Wegman, Miss Eastern Wayne 2011. Hailey Best, reigning Miss North Carolina and a former student at EWH, will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

*Samantha Baker, 17, will perform a modern dance to "I Got You" by Leonna Lewis. The daughter of Jeff and Debbie Baker plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to major in dance.

*Macie Bell, 16, will sing "One Step at a Time" made popular by Jordin Sparks. The daughter of Michael and Tammy Bell plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to obtain a nursing degree.

*Letty Davenport, 17, will sing "Part of Your World" from the movie "Little Mermaid." Her parents are John and Lemy Davenport. She plans to attend East Carolina University to major in broadcast journalism.

*Alexis Davila, 17, daughter of Tonya Clark, will perform a tap dance to "Footloose" by Blake Shelton. She plans to attend college and major in political science.

*Raehanna Evans, 16, the daughter of Beajeanna Goodman and Lasann Evans, will perform the piano solo "Tarantella." She plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to major in accounting and Finance.

*Katherine Gambella, 17, will perform a tap dance routine to "Danza Kudoro" by Don Omar. She will attend Meredith College to study art and psychology.

*Angelitha Lewis, 18, will sing "If I Wrote a Note to God" made popular by Charice. Her parents are Diedrik and Angela Lewis. She plans to attend college to major in nursing and science.

*Morgan Powell, 16, will perform a jazz dance to "Right Now" by the Pussycat Dolls. She is the daughter of Kevin and Suzanne Powell and plans to pursue her education for a career in the medical field.

*Alaina Ruggery, 17, will perform a tap dance to "Ain't No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera. The daughter of Joseph and Lisa Ruggery, she plans to study pre-med or biology in college.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from the contestants or the pageant director Jessica Gray at EWHS at 751-7120.
