Assault with firearm
Toney Peterson reported that a man came to his home in the 1200 block of East Elm Street about 7 p.m. Monday to collect $100 owed by Peterson. When Peterson did not have the money the man pulled out a handgun and fired a shot over his head.
B&Es and larcenies
*Wayne County Schools employee Lee Brown reported the theft of $20 of copper pipe from an a/c unit at School Street School, located at 415 S. Virginia St., between Friday and Monday. During the theft $1,500 of damage was done to the a/c unit.
*Smith Chapel Supply employee Wilber Mitchell reported the theft of merchandise from the business, located at 2216 N.C. 55 W. in Mount Olive, that occurred between Saturday and Monday. An unknown suspect(s) gained entry into the business by cutting the lock off a storage are roll-up door. The suspect(s) took a trailer and loaded it with additional merchandise. The stolen property included a 2006 16 feet Hudson trailer; a 2010 X1060 Big Dog 60 inch cut, zero-turn mower; a 2010 R748 Big Doc 48 inch cut, zero-turn mower; a Briggs and Stratton 500 watt generator; a chain saw; $129 of dog food; and three antique chain saws. The value of the stolen property was reported at more than $19,500.
*Norwayne Junior High School Principal Mario Re reported the theft of batteries from school buses located at the school at 1394 Norwayne School Road in Fremont, that occurred between Saturday and Sunday. The batteries have a reported value of $400.
