A showcase of local talent has been enlisted to perform in a fundraiser for a Wayne County teenager recently diagnosed with leukemia.
"Gala of Hope" is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, organizer Whitney Grantham said.
The event is targeted to raise money to offset medical expenses for the family of Jake May, an Eastern Wayne High School senior. The baseball player was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in January.
Since then, efforts around the county have developed to support the family.
Ms. Grantham said all proceeds from the musical event, from ticket sales to concessions, will be presented to a family representative the night of the performance.
Performers on the program include the Malpass Brothers, Miss North Carolina Hailey Best, Miss Goldsboro Blair Mozingo, Madeline Edwards, Blake Holder, Tyler Kornegay and others from the surrounding area.
Tickets are $10 in advance or available the night of the event. The box office will open at 6 and doors will open at 6:30.
