The annual "Prize Patrol" from Wayne County Chamber of Commerce has made its rounds to area schools, distributing more than $10,000 in mini-grants to teachers for creative and innovative classroom projects.

The funds, generated from the 2011 Dancing Stars of Wayne County event last spring, provided 27 grants to 29 teachers in 15 different schools.

Among the projects being made possible by the mini-grants are a butterfly nursery at Grantham School where teacher Susan Long intends to demonstrate how the different stages a caterpillar goes through before becoming a butterfly; lessons on recycling and gardening in Donna Countryman's class at Carver Heights Elementary School; and a schoolwide mural project on character at North Drive Elementary School.
