Family dispute ends in gunfire
A Rosewood man is in Pitt Memorial Hospital today for a gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by his cousin Sunday night.
Victor Lee Cox, 29, was shot once with a handgun apparently fired by Lawrence Ray Cox, 42, around 11:30, deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.
Hospital officials said today that Cox's status is undetermined.
The incident took place soon after Victor Cox arrived at the home of Lawrence Cox, located on True Vine Road.
"It appears the shooting took place during a confrontation," Major Tom Effler said.
Effler said the investigation will continue before any charges are filed.
"At this time, no charges have been initiated," Effler said.
Lawrence Cox was on the scene when deputies arrived and he was cooperative with deputies, Effler said.
Teens charged in Rosewood area break-in
On Jan. 18, deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to a break-in in progress at a home in the Rosewood community.
On arrival, deputies found a resident of the home had prevented the suspects from leaving by blocking their vehicle with his own.
The subjects were taken into custody and identified as 17-year-old Brandon Jackson Duren, of 1985 U.S. 70 W., and 19-year-old Dustin Glenn Allen, of 770 Ebenezer Church Road.
The young men were charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods.
The pair was then given an unsecured bond and released.
Duren is accused of then returning to the home he was charged of robbing and verbally assaulting a resident, for which he was charged with intimidating a witness.
Allen was placed under a $15,000 bond and, with the additional charge, Duren's bond was increased to $55,000.
More than $200 in stolen property was returned to the Rosewood homeowner.
Dudley teen charged in car theft
Joshua Deshawn Lofton, 19, of 202 N. Hereford Drive in Dudley, was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for allegedly stealing a vehicle in the Mar-Mac community.
Lofton has been charged with felony larceny, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and obtaining property by false pretenses.
The arrest stems from a reported filed in November of the theft of a 1997 Dodge Neon, valued at $2,000.
According to a statement released by deputies, the investigation revealed that Lofton stole the vehicle and sold it by representing himself as the owner.
He was placed under a $15,000 bond.
