Members representing Free Will Baptist churches in Wilson County generated $45,975 in gifts to Mount Olive College.
One hundred seventy-five people attended the annual College Dinner at Daniels Chapel FWB Church. Churches presented their gifts to the college at the dinner. Of those giving, 206 were designated as Bridge Builders for contributing a gift of $100 or more.
Two churches received special recognition at the dinner.
Daniels Chapel FWB Church, with Charles "Buddy" Pittman as chair, was recognized for giving the largest contribution at the 2011 dinner and for having the most high school students in attendance, and Aspen Grove FWB Church, with David Hobgood as chair, was recognized for giving the most per capita.
"This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of Mount Olive College by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists," said college President Dr. Philip P. Kerstetter. "The college clearly recognizes its commitment and responsibilities to its founding church, and I am gratified to see the way that the congregations understand the importance of educating students in a Christian faith-based, values-centered setting that is rooted in the liberal arts tradition."
