Ms. Seegars has served as a Senior Tar Heel Legislator since the inception of the group in 1994. The purpose of the Senior Tar Heel Legislators is to provide information and education to senior adults on the legislative process and matters being considered by the N.C. General Assembly.

Ms. Seegars visits local nursing homes weekly and advocates for residents' needs. She has been the driving force for a new bill introduced into the General Assembly to mandate drug testing for nursing home staff.
Ms. Seegars is a member of the Commissioner's Council for Older Adults and helps with allocation decisions for the Home and Community Care Block Grant funding to insure the best use of funds for senior citizens in Wayne County. She also is a volunteer for the North Carolina Senior Health Insurance Information Program.
