Wayne County Public Schools' 11th annual holiday showcase will be held this week.

The districtwide performance of school choruses has grown to the point where it now spans three nights, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, all at Goldsboro High School.

When the showcase began in 2001, 12 schools participated, officials said. Now 28 schools are taking part.

Each program begins at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6. Admission is $5 per person, with children under 5 years old admitted free. All proceeds benefit choral programs at the participating schools.

"The choral showcase is a special holiday event that our community looks forward to watching and listening to each year," said Kim Copeland, the district's performing arts director. "Students have worked very hard preparing for this festive three-day event and our schools are excited to showcase their talents."

Participating schools for each night are as follows:

Monday evening will feature choruses from Brogden Primary School, Carver Elementary, Carver Heights Elementary, Dillard Middle, Edgewood Community Developmental School, Goldsboro High, Grantham School, Mount Olive Middle, North Drive Elementary, School Street Elementary and Southern Wayne High. Master of ceremonies will be Rick Pridgen, Wayne County Board of Education member.

On Tuesday, choruses performing include Charles B. Aycock High, Fremont STARS Elementary, Northeast Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Norwayne Middle, Rosewood Elementary, Rosewood High, Rosewood Middle and Wayne Early/Middle College High. School board member Eddie Radford will be the emcee.

Student groups performing on Thursday are Eastern Wayne Elementary, Eastern Wayne High, Eastern Wayne Middle, Greenwood Middle, Meadow Lane Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, Spring Creek High, Tommy's Road Elementary and Wayne Early/Middle College High. Pridgen will again be the emcee.
