A District Court judge for Wayne, Lenoir and Greene counties has been charged with driving under the influence.
Judge Lonnie Carraway was charged by the state Highway Patrol after his vehicle, a 2005 Nissan, ran off the right side of Charlie Waters Road, near Four Way Loop Road, about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
During the investigation, the trooper suspected that Carraway was under the influence of prescription drugs. He was placed under arrest and taken to Snow Hill where he was evaluated by a drug recognition expert officer.
"The DRE determined he was under the influence of prescription drugs," Sgt. Jeff Gordon, of the state Highway Patrol public affairs office, said of Carraway's condition following the accident.
Blood was drawn from Carraway for analysis and will be sent to the SBI Laboratory.
"We are probably looking at a month minimum for the results to be made available," Gordon said of Carraway's blood sample.
Carraway was placed under an unsecured bound.
Carraway has a court date set for March 30 in Greene County.
