Albertson Stewfest is Nov. 5

ALBERTSON -- Billy Ray Daniels, chief chef for the Albertson Fire Department, will defend his title as the top stew chef during the annual Albertson Stewfest fundraiser.

The event, a fundraiser for the Grady-Outlaw Memorial Library, will be Nov. 5 beginning at 9 a.m. on the library lawn at the corner of N.C. 111/903 and Sheep Pasture Road.

The opening ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. and the stews will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or as long as they last, said Dorine Williams, one of the event's organizers.

The stews will be judged by popular vote and judging will end at 1:30 p.m.

The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children to sample any or all of the stews registered for the competition provided by Daniels, churches, youth groups, Scout troops and businesses.

Hot dogs, homemade baked goods and Pepsi products will be on sale as well.

Musical entertainment will include beach, blues and bluegrass music and other local talent. Other activities will include a horseshoe tournament, corn hole tournament and other games and a train ride for the children.

Raffle tickets will be sold for chances to win a 42-inch flat-screen television, a semiautomatic 12-gauge shotgun and a Henry Repeating Arms Co. lever action .22 caliber rifle.

Boy Scout Troop 37 will help direct traffic.

All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase new books, media supplies and for current expenses at the library. New wireless computers have been installed at the library.

Grady-Outlaw Memorial Library is financed entirely by private donations and is operated by volunteers. It will be open for tours during the event
