Family and friends are holding a benefit for local fiddling prodigy Samantha Casey the best way they know how -- with a concert at Rosewood High School.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday and running for much of the afternoon, organizers are trying to help the Casey family pay off a host of medical bills that were incurred in August when Samantha was treated at Duke Hospital for a brain tumor, which turned out to be benign. After a short recovery, Samantha, 15, was able to start school on time this year and has recently begun playing her fiddle again.

Performing at the concert will be Al Batten & The Bluegrass Reunion, The Malpass Brothers, Roby Huffman & The Bluegrass Cutups, The Boys From Carolina, Beth Ivey, and of course, Samantha Casey & The Bluegrass Jam.

The host will be Annette Grady, host of the Chester Thompson Old Time Radio Jamboree heard on 1070 AM out of Greenville.

Rosewood High School is located at 900 Rosewood Road, Goldsboro.

Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. For tickets and additional information, call: Annette Grady at 920-3405 or Stuart Kornegay at 921-0720.

There also will be light concessions and a love offering collected.
