Wayne County Health Department is planning a mass flu vaccination clinic Oct. 20 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Anyone 6 months of age or older is encouraged to get the flu vaccine, especially children, pregnant women, senior citizens or anyone with a chronic health condition. Also included are immune-compromised individuals.

Cost for this year's vaccine is $25 for those who do not have insurance provisions. Adults 19 and up who have Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, Medicare HMO or Medicaid are asked to bring insurance cards at the time of their visit.

The vaccine is also free to children 6 months of age to 18 years of age if the child has Medicaid, Health Choice or no health insurance. Parents/guardian should bring their child's insurance card with them.

Individuals 65 years of age or older are eligible to receive the high dose flu vaccine at no cost. Insurance cards with proof of Medicare or Medicare HMO are requested. Cost of the shot without health insurance is $40.

The Health Department will bill the individual's insurance for the cost of the shot. If insurance does not cover the cost of the shot the health department will bill the individual later.

Health care workers may receive the flu vaccine free of charge but must bring employee identification with them to qualify.

The Health Department is located at 301 N. Herman St.
