Voting to begin later this month for some municipalities

Goldsboro, Mount Olive and Fremont municipal offices will not be included when one-stop voting gets under way later this month in advance of the Nov. 8 election.
The elections in those municipalities have been postponed until next spring because of redistricting in those three municipalities.
Filing for Goldsboro, Mount Olive and Fremont will begin at noon on Feb. 13, 2012, and end at noon on Feb. 29. The Mount Olive and Fremont elections will be held May 8. Goldsboro's primary, if there are more than two candidates per seat, also would be May 8, with the election June 26.
There were few candidates in the county's remaining municipal elections.
No one filed for the three seats open on the Eureka town board. The town has a tradition of filling those seats with write-in candidates.
In Pikeville, four filed for the three open seats: Tom Evans, Todd S. Anderson, Robert Hooks and Charles Hooks.
Alan Cash is the only candidate for mayor of Seven Springs, and Bobby Mozingo is the only candidate for the town's three open seats. As in the case of Eureka, those seats would be filled by write-in votes.
There are four candidates for the three open seats on the Walnut Creek board. They are David "Stoney" Sloan, Danny Jackson, Tom Shaw and Greg Ricker.
Four of the county's sanitary districts will have elections as well:
* Fork Township, two seats: Andy G. Hartley, David Jackson, Gary Holland.
* Northwestern Wayne, five seats: William "Bill" Lynch, James S. Kirby, Danny K. Tillman, George Wayne Aycock Jr., Hope A. Hart, Walter F. Bridgers.
* Southern Wayne, three seats: Scott T. Ingram, Marty Shaw, Billy Brock, William "Bill" Harrell, C.R. "Chet" Whitman.
* Southwestern Wayne, five seats: David A. Bennett, W. Harold Hollingsworth Sr., Daryll Overton, Gail Minchew, Jimmy B. Cox, Alan Lumpkin.
The only site for one-stop voting will be the Wayne County Board of Elections office, 209 S. William St., Goldsboro, on Oct. 20 and 21, Oct. 24 to 28, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1-4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
New voters may complete a voter registration form and vote during that time.
The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by mail is Nov. 1, at 5 p.m. The deadline for returning absentee ballots to the Wayne County Board of Elections is Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.
Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 8

* 8 Oakland Fire Station, 617 Oakland Church Rd., Princeton
* 9 Westwood United Methodist Church, 130 Short St., Goldsboro
* 14 New Hope Friends Church, 4451 U.S. 70 East, Goldsboro
* 15 Seven Springs Baptist Church, 5924 N.C. 55 East, Seven Springs
* 16 American Legion Post 11, 2973 U.S. 117 South, Dudley
* 24 Grantham Fire Station, 3430 U.S. 13 South, Grantham
* 26 Dudley Fire Station, 4533 U.S. 117 South, Dudley
* 27 May's Chapel Church, 3831 U.S. 117 Alternate South, Dudley.
Voters who have question concerning their voter registration status, polling place location, or any other questions concerning access to voting should contact the Wayne County Board of Elections by calling 731-1141. The website has a voter registration search engine where voters may obtain all of their registration information. In addition, sample ballots and candidate information are available for download.
The tabulators for the Nov. 8 election will be tested Oct. 6 to 7 between 8 and 11 a.m., at the County Administration Building, 209 S. William St. Anyone interested is welcome to observe the process.
The Board of Elections will be open on Election Day from 6:30 a.m. until all precincts have reported in and returned their equipment. Election Night results will be displayed in the board room as soon as they are received from the precincts.

The results be unofficial until the Wayne County Board of Elections canvass on Nov. 15.
