A 21-year-old man was fatally wounded by gunfire late Saturday night in a Goldsboro apartment complex.

Laquan Devon Pearsall, 21, was shot in the area of the Jefferson Court Apartments in the 1100 block of North Jefferson Street, according to police.

Goldsboro police found Pearsall dead at about 11 p.m., after responding to a call of multiple shots fired in the area.

As of press time today, no one had been charged in the shooting.

Ms. Learnard said an automatic firearm was used in the shooting, but she would not disclose how many times Pearsall was struck.

He was employed at Stevens Sausage in Smithfield.

Ms. Learnard could not confidently provide a single address for Pearsall, adding that he apparently used numerous addresses. One of the addresses, however, was a home on Bryant Street in Goldsboro, she said.

Ms. Learnard said community members in the apartment complex and other parts of Goldsboro have been cooperative in the investigation.

"We have had quite a bit of people come forward to assist us," Ms. Learnard said. "We have been trying to follow up on every lead that has come in."

The GPD has received additional assistance from the SBI.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call investigator Doug Bethea at 580-4214 or Crime Stoppers at 735-2255 or text Crime Stoppers at 273-6585.
