Wayne inmate confesses to killing woman

An inmate at Wayne Correctional Facility is facing a pending charge of murder in the death of a woman who has, until recently, been known only as Jane Doe to investigators for 11 years.
John Wayne Boyer, 54, confessed last month to killing Michelle Haggadone, 34, in Darlington County, S.C.
After Ms. Haggadone's remains were discovered in 2000, investigators at the Darlington County Sheriff's Office were unable to identify the body.
DNA submitted by Ms. Haggadone's mother, sister and child, of Bolivia, N.C., was entered into a DNA database by deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. Deputies in Brunswick County and the Haggadone family submitted the DNA in an attempt to locate Ms. Haggadone who was considered a missing person.
The DNA of her family members matched that of the Jane Doe in Darlington County.
The match resulted in investigators from Darlington County meeting with Boyer at Wayne Correction Facility, on Stevens Mill Road, in August for an interview.
Capt. Andy Locklair was one of the investigators who made the trip from South Carolina.
During the interview, Boyer confessed to killing Ms. Haggadone, Locklair said.
"He will be charged with murder after the warrant if fully processed," he said.
Locklair said that after a case has been open for 11 years, it typically remains unsolved.
"It is extremely rare to close a case that has been open for this long," Locklair said. "It is pretty remarkable."
Boyer is currently incarcerated at Wayne Correctional for a conviction of second-degree murder in the death of a woman in New Hanover County.
