With the first day of school arriving next week for Wayne County Public Schools, officials have announced open house dates and times.
Students and parents are encouraged to attend the events, which allow staff and teachers to welcome new and returning students back to the classroom, said Dr. Steven Taylor, schools superintendent.
"The resources that are made available at these events will allow students to take their first steps toward completing a successful school year," he said.
In addition to locating classrooms and being introduced to a new routine, open house is also an opportunity to secure schedules and ask last-minute questions before school resumes.
Two schools in the district have already begun classes. Wayne School of Engineering and Wayne Early/Middle College High School students returned Aug. 8. The other 29 schools start next week -- first with Dillard Middle and Goldsboro High on Tuesday, the remainder on Thursday.
Open house at Dillard will take place Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Goldsboro High will welcome parents and students to open house Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
The bulk of the open house events will be held on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. each night, at middle and high schools on Monday followed by elementary schools, including Grantham. Edgewood Community Developmental School will have open house 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Parents at Edgewood are also reminded to schedule an appointment with the child's teacher.
Some schools will deviate slightly from the schedule, holding special events.
On Wednesday evening, Spring Creek High will hold a sixth-grade open house from 6-7:30 p.m. in the gym. Then on Thursday, Eastern Wayne Middle will hold an event for sixth-graders from 5-7 p.m.
Eastern Wayne High School will host a freshman and new student orientation on Monday from 1-4 p.m.
Rosewood High will also stagger its schedule, welcoming freshmen on Monday from 4-6 p.m. and grades 10-12 from 6-8 p.m.
