Dropout prevention organization Communities In Schools of North Carolina is working this summer with Walmart to collect school supplies for economically-disadvantaged students in North Carolina.
The 2011 "Build A Backpack" back-to-school supply drive is the largest school supply drive ever conducted by Walmart in North Carolina, involving all 138 stores in the state. Communities in Schools has identified 77 counties that will benefit from the "Build A Backpack" program, including Wayne.
At each Walmart store is a bin to collect donated school supply items, which will be distributed to local Communities In Schools affiliates that will then distribute the items to low-income students. Individuals can also participate in this drive from the comfort of home by simply visiting CISNC's Facebook Causes Page to donate online toward "Build A Backpack," or by simply clicking here and donating toward "Build A Backpack." Money collected will be distributed to the CIS affiliate or partner organization in each county to purchase needed school supplies.
The campaign will run until Aug. 21.
