A memorial service to honor Cquashanda Laquan Mitchell, 19, who was fatally shot in her home earlier this week, is scheduled Saturday night.

The event will take place in front of Berkeley Mall at 9 p.m. and will include speeches from friends, a candlelighting ceremony and a balloon release.

Friends who graduated with Ms. Mitchell from Charles B. Aycock High School in 2010 are planning the service.

Organizers said more than 200 people have confirmed on Facebook that they will attend the event.

Donations will be collected during the service to help the family cover funeral costs.

T-shirts honoring Ms. Mitchell have been printed and will be on sale during the event, organizers said.

Proceeds from T-shirt sales will also go to the family. Organizers are requesting that those who attend the service bring their own candles to light during the memorial.

Ms. Mitchell's brother, Rico Antonio Mitchell, 22, has been charged in her murder and the attempted murder of their father, Robert Earl Mitchell.

Ms. Mitchell and her father were shot in their home in the 100 block of Jasmine Lane in Fremont around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
