The gates of Park Avenue and discussions concerning the city's street repaving projects are slated to highlight the City Council's work session Monday.

The session will begin a half-hour later than usual, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Addition at 200 N. Center Street.

Interim Parks and Recreation director Sherry Archibald will present the council with the Recreation and Parks Commission's recommendations discussed at its July 12 meeting, including a schedule for the road through Herman Park to be closed. The recommendation was that the road be closed from 4 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Monday weekly from April to September.

The engineering department will address the city's street paving project during the work session, explaining that costs have exceeded estimates due to further deterioriation of the roads since the estimates were made.

Director of Engineering Marty Anderson said Friday the projects on either Park Avenue or Chestnut Street would likely need to be postponed to stay on budget.

Public Utilities officials will also address the council, giving an update on river and drought conditions.

The regular session of the council, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers has seven items on its consent agenda, including a budget amendment to reallocate $6,000 from the occupancy tax fund to the Waynesborough Commission to assist in funding the visitors center at Old Waynesborough.
