FREMONT -- A Goldsboro man was charged Wednesday in the murder of his sister and attempted murder of his father.
Rico Antonio Mitchell, 22, has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for his alleged involvement in the shooting that killed 19-year-old Cquashanda Laquan Mitchell and sent Robert Earl Mitchell, 56, to Wayne Memorial Hospital and later to Pitt Memorial Hospital.
The shooting occurred at the victims' home in the 100 block of Jasmine Lane in Fremont around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Rico Mitchell, of Hopkins Street, was taken into custody at the home moments after the shooting. Deputies said the suspect was cooperative during the arrest.
Deputies said the incident was reported by siblings, an 11-year-old girl and 22-year-old man, who were at the home at the time of the shooting.
The firearm used in the shooting was brought to the home by the suspect, they said.
