The school board Monday night adopted a resolution allowing for a deed transfer and entering into a lease agreement with the county to proceed with the remaining two construction projects at Eastern Wayne and Norwayne middle schools.

Board attorney Jack Edwards said he had conferred with the county's attorney on the transaction prior to the meeting.

"The financing has been applied for and we're ready to move forward with those projects," he told the board. "Three of the five (projects) have been completed -- Greenwood, Brogden Primary and Mount Olive Middle.

"Those three projects have been completed in accord of a memorandum of understanding adopted by the county commission and Board of Education in 2008."

Part of the process, Edwards explained, was that the site would be deeded to the county "with a lease back" and an agency agreement designating the school board to act on behalf of the county as agent during the construction of the facilities.

The final part of the resolution required approval of transfer of deed of the two properties to the county, while entering into a lease agreement and agency agreement.

The resolution passed 6-0.
