Wayne gears up for Fourth of July

Local, state and federal offices, including Postal Service offices and banks, will be closed Monday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.
Wayne County offices also will be closed. Employees working four- or five-day workweeks will all have Monday off.
Town halls in Goldsboro, Mount Olive, Pikeville and Fremont will be closed as well as the Wayne County Public Schools administrative offices.
No July 4 celebrations are planned for Goldsboro, Pikeville or Fremont.
A fireworks display, however, will be held Monday starting at dusk at Berkeley Mall. The celebration will include a BMX stunt show, Moon Bounce, entertainment, food and assorted vendors and a sidewalks sale.
And Thursday at 9:15, fireworks will burst above Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Access to the base is restricted to airmen and base card holders.
The Mount Olive Exchange Club will sponsor the town's celebration at Westbrook Park from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday. It will include free entertainment and free hot dogs and sodas.
The event will kick off with a children's parade at 4:45 p.m., and any child, age 12 and under, who wishes to participate should decorate his or her bicycle, tricycle, wheelchair, stroller or wagon in a patriotic theme. Participants will be presented with ribbon awards.
Other awards also will be given out at the celebration to the youngest and the oldest people attending, as well as those who traveled the greatest distance to celebrate.
All Goldsboro sanitation services scheduled for Monday will be serviced on Wednesday.
Waste Industries will maintain its regular collection schedule.
The Goldsboro/Wayne Transportation Authority will operate on a holiday schedule July 4. The bus service will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The van service will operate on its normal schedule.
Passengers requesting van service for Monday must call and schedule transportation by no later than 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Passengers requesting van service for Tuesday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 6 must call and schedule transportation no later that 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 1.
The WATCH mobile medical van will not operate on Monday. Health Department offices will also be closed.
In Pikeville garbage pickup scheduled for July 7 will take place July 8.
Garbage pickup in Fremont planned for Monday will take place on July 5.
The closing will not affect garbage pickup in Mount Olive.
