Man starts fire in own home to evade deputies
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic dispute at a home on Camp Jubilee Road in Seven Springs Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. involving Jorge Adan Ramirez, 33, and his girlfriend.
According to the report, a neighbor called 911 after the woman came to his home seeking help. The neighbor told deputies that Ramirez also came to his home carrying a knife in one hand and a beer in the other.
When the deputies arrived, they entered the home and communicated with Ramirez through a locked bedroom door. The deputies then smelled smoke and heard noises that lead them to check the outside of the home where they found a window had been opened and fire had been started on the bed. Also on the bed was a propane tank.
The deputies removed the propane tank from the room and put out the fire.
Ramirez was taken into custody moments later after a someone called 911 who had witnessed Ramirez leave his home and run toward nearby N.C. 55.
Ramirez was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on government official and placed under a $50,000 bond.
Woman overturns car, charged with DWI
A woman who was allegedly driving impaired overturned her vehicle after striking a utility pole on North Herman Street around 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Natasha Phillipi, 26, of Central Heights Road, was charged by Goldsboro police with driving while impaired and failure to reduce speed. Police estimate Ms. Phillipi was traveling 35 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Ms. Phillipi was the only occupant in the vehicle, which landed on it's roof in the center of the road 16 feet from the utility pole.
Ms Phillipi was taken to the emergency room, then released and arrested. The estimated damage to the light pole is $2,500.
According to the report, Ms Phillipi stated that she had been working and drinking.
Copper stolen from cell phone tower
A cell phone tower in the 700 block of Old Smithfield Road was stripped of copper wire between June 2 and June 28, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Verizon Wireless Communications is the listed victim of the incident that resulted in the theft of $400 of copper wire, $2,500 in damages to the tower and $500 in damage to a chain link fence, which the suspect(s) cut through to gain access.
Arrest made for home break-in
Clairese Herbert, 31, of Day Circle, was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with felonious possession of stolen property. The charge stems from a report filed on May 21 for a residential breaking, entering and larceny at a residence in the 200 block of Seymour Drive. According to the report, an unknown number of subjects entered the home and stole electronic items, including a laptop computer.
During the investigation, Ms. Herbert's residence was searched, and the stolen laptop was recovered.
Ms. Herbert was placed under a $1,500 unsecured bond.
