A 40-year-old Duplin County man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman at Busco Beach.
Anthony Pfaff, 41, of Quinn Store Road, Beulaville, was arrested by Wayne County sheriff's deputies over the weekend and charged with second-degree rape and jailed under a $100,000 bond.
Sheriff's Capt. Tom Effler said that Pfaff and the victim knew each other.
The alleged assault happened late Saturday evening into early Sunday morning, Effler said.
Pfaff, the victim and others had been four-wheeling on the Busco Beach property and somehow had become separated from the others, he said.
Pfaff was taken into custody without incident.
However, before deputies arrived Pfaff and the victim's relative got into a fight and Pfaff was beaten up, Effler said.
Pfaff was treated by Wayne County EMS. The victim was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital and released.
Effler said the Sheriff's Office would not be filing charges against the victim's relatives, but that Pfaff could choose to.
