A one-car accident Saturday morning on U.S. 13 South sent the driver by helicopter to Duke Medical Center.
The condition of Wendy Bass Noll, 37, of Spring Branch Road was unavailable at presstime.
She was pinned in her car, a Hyundai station wagon, after it ran off the road about a half mile north of the highway's intersection with Overman Road at about 8 a.m.
State Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Holloman said her car "drifted off" the roadway as she was traveling toward Goldsboro, struck a driveway tiling and went airborne, striking a utility pole before coming to rest in a cornfield.
Because of the way the vehicle was crushed, it took rescue workers almost three hours to extricate her.
Holloman said the accident was still under investigation and offered no indication of whether charges would be filed. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Holloman said.
