Two city pools get thousands in repair work

Goldsboro residents could soon have two pools available for their use.
City Council approved contracts for renovation and rehabilitation of the Mina Weil Park and Peacock Park pools during a special meeting of the council at noon on Tuesday.
The council agreed the city would fund the repair of the pools with funds from the Community Development Block Grant Program. Both will be refurbished so that they can pass the Department of Health inspection that is required before any public pool can open.
Repairs to the Peacock pool and pump house will cost $62,000 while the Mina Weil pool will need $51,400 to pay for the repairs. Cool Tan Inc. (doing business as Southern Pools of Charlotte) will do the Mina Weil work, while ADI Pool and Spa of Climax was contracted for the Peacock renovation.
Interim City Manager Tasha Logan said while she would like to see the projects completed by Memorial Day, there was a chance the project would take longer to verify it was done sufficiently.
The council also voted to replace the roof on Fire Station No. 3 on Patetown Road. The building, which was built in 1966, still has its original roof and Ms. Logan said repairing it was no longer economically feasible. The replacement of the roof will be done by Eagles Properties Inc. of Goldsboro, which submitted the lowest bid for the project $50,800.
It was also decided to fund the lead-based paint/asbestos abatement and rehabilitation of a home on Force Road using funds from the city's HOME Investment Partnership Program. The contract was awarded to Charlie M. Lamm Inc. of Sims.
