Sunrise Kiwanis Club and Q97 Radio will sponsor the 33rd Annual Greater Goldsboro Road Run on Saturday, April 9.
The event features a 10K run (6.2 miles), a 5K run or walk (3.1) miles and a one-mile Fun Run.
The runs begin and end at or near Cornerstone Commons at the corner of Chestnut and Center Streets. Pre-registration packet pickup and same day registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Chestnut St.
All runs begin at 9 a.m.
The Greater Goldsboro Road Run was first held in June of 1979 and has been held each year since -- making it one of the oldest runs in the state.
The 10K and 5K races are run over USTAF certified courses. Awards are given to the overall winners of each event -- male and female -- and to the top 3 finishers in each age group.
More than 225 participants are expected. Refreshments of fruit, sandwiches and drinks will be provided the runners at the finish line.
Each runner will receive a shirt which this year commemorates Goldsboro's historical Union Station with a rendering of the station on the front of the shirt. This is the first year the shirt has featured a specific place.
Registration fees are $20 by Wednesday and $25 after Wednesday. Registration may be done online at www.RunTheEast.com or www.Active.com. Applications for mailing are available at www.sun risekiwanisonline.com.
All money raised by the event from sponsors and entry fees are used by Sunrise Kiwanis in support of community organizations providing services to children.
Center Street will be closed for several hours for the run.
