Goldsboro native Steve Baddour will be featured in a piano concert at Wayne Community College this week.

"Latin Passions" will be presented in Moffatt Auditorium on the college campus Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The free program is sponsored by the Foundation of WCC.

"Playing the piano has been my lifelong avocation," said Baddour, who graduated from Goldsboro High School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and George Washington University.

Now a retired educator who taught English at a small public high school for struggling students in Montgomery County, Md., he lives in Washington and primarily performs piano recitals in the D.C. area.

"I enjoy talking about the music, explaining what attracts me to it and sharing information about the composer and the style," he said. "Lately, I've been exploring the classical piano music of Spain, the Caribbean and South America. I'm drawn by the influence of folk and popular musical forms with their exotic rhythms and saturated harmonies."

In addition to performing music with a Latin flair, he will also feature traditional European classical music, mostly of the Romantic and Impressionistic periods and some American Ragtime and jazz selections.
