Moments after Parks and Recreation Director Ruben Wall said farewell to members of the Goldsboro City Council Monday evening, Interim City Manager Tasha Logan announced a temporary replacement for the post he will soon leave vacant.
Paramount Theater Director Sherry Archibald has been named interim director, Ms. Logan told the board, marking the fifth Parks and Recreation director hire since 2008 -- Sonya Shaw left in 2008 to take a position in Garner, interim director Gail Charles retired, David Carter resigned after only four months on the job to pursue a more lucrative offer in Chesapeake, Va., and Wall recently accepted the same position in Wake Forest.
Since joining the city's team in April 2010, Wall has spearheaded improvements at Berkeley Park, urged the City Council to look into establishing new park hours to deter crime and sent Herman Park's "Lady in the Park" statue to St. Louis for a facelift -- he was also in charge of the department when the council voted down construction of a new Recreation Center downtown.
Mrs. Archibald, former Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. promotions coordinator and Habitat for Humanity development director, was hired for the Paramount post in late 2007.
Ms. Logan said she will retain her duties at the theater while leading Parks and Recreation.
