Another Goldsboro department head is on his way out of the city.

City Manager Joe Huffman confirmed Thursday afternoon that Parks and Recreation Director Ruben Wall has accepted the same position with the town of Wake Forest. Huffman and Police Chief Tim Bell also will be leaving their posts in March.

Wall, who has been with the city for less than a year, marked the fourth Parks and Recreation director hired since 2008 -- Sonya Shaw left in 2008 to take a position in Garner, interim director Gail Charles retired and David Carter resigned after only four months on the job to pursue a more lucrative offer in Chesapeake, Va.

Huffman said due to his pending retirement -- he recently accepted the city manager job in Pascagoula, Miss., and will officially end his tenure in Goldsboro March 1 -- Interim City Manager Tasha Logan will be charged with hiring Wall's replacement.

Since joining the city's team in April 2010, Wall has spearheaded improvements at Berkeley Park, urged the City Council to look into establishing new park hours to deter crime and sent Herman Park's "Lady in the Park" statue to St. Louis for a facelift.

He was also in charge of the department when the council voted down construction of a new Recreation Center downtown.
