As the search for outgoing City Manager Joe Huffman's replacement continues, members of the City Council are putting his current assistant into the role for the time being.
Tasha Logan, who has served as assistant city manager for nearly six years, was voted into the post on an interim basis effective March 1.
She holds a master's degree in public administration from North Carolina State University, is an International City Manager's Association Credentialed Manager and participates in several local organizations, from the Goldsboro Rotary Club to the Partnership for Children's board of directors.
Huffman announced his retirement in December, citing a desire to take on a new challenge and confidence that the city had the pieces in place to move on without him.
"I've thought about it for the last few years -- when might be the best time, and right now, the conditions seem to be good," he said then. "Everything seems to be stable. Every department head is very strong. We have the perfect team."
Less than two months later, Huffman was hired as the new city manager for Pascagoula, Miss.
So Ms. Logan is expected to serve in his stead -- at least until a formal decision on Huffman's replacement is made by the City Council upon receiving feedback from the consultant they hired to gather a list of qualified candidates.
