Goldsboro police officers will serve as waiters and temporary staff at La Paz Family Mexican Restaurant on Spence Avenue on Friday in order to raise money for the Special Olympics.

Officers will be on hand to help with serving customers and accepting donations for the Special Olympics at lunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and at dinner from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

McGruff, the crime dog, also will be on hand and there will be stickers and coloring materials available for children.

Law enforcement has been a strong supporter of the Special Olympics for years and the Goldsboro Police Department is urging residents to lend a hand as well.

Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run T-shirts and hats also will be available for purchase, with the money going to support the Special Olympians from Wayne County.

La Paz also will be making a special donation to the cause.
