Goldsboro police are investigating what they are calling an apparent murder and suicide on Sunday.
Officers responded to the 800 block of Slaughter Street at about 2:45 a.m. in response to a report of shots fired.
Tequilla Danyele Barrett, 26, of Hugh Street, was found dead inside a vehicle from apparent gunshot wounds, police said.
Derris Jamar Oates, 30, of Dakota Street, was found near the vehicle with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
According to police, Oates and Ms. Barrett had a relationship in the past, and he was the father of her two children.
Oates was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Pitt Memorial in Greenville, where he later died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
