Officials with the N.C. Highway Patrol confirmed Saturday that three people died Friday in Greene County after a fiery two-car crash.

A spokesman at the N.C. Highway Patrol Communications Center in Raleigh confirmed that Shirley Francis Mitchell, 24, of Greenville, and Debbie Faye Taylor, 42, and Jonathan Darnell Lucas Jr., 25, both of Snow Hill, were killed when Ms. Mitchell's SUV crossed the center line on U.S. 13, nearly two miles northeast of Snow Hill near the intersection with Newell Road at about 5:30 p.m. Friday. Highway Patrol officials said Mitchell's SUV burst into flames upon impact.

A fourth victim was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in critical condition, but further information was not available, and the N.C. Highway Patrol did not have the victims' identity.
